I recently brought my Subaru Outback in because the driver-side window stopped working. Since I’m preparing for a long road trip to several national parks, I also asked them to do a full multipoint inspection of the vehicle. They quickly diagnosed the issue and found that the window actuator motor had failed. During the inspection they also noticed a small oil leak from the engine gasket and recommended replacing it before my trip to avoid future problems. Everything was explained clearly and honestly, with no pressure. The repairs were completed within just a couple of days. After the work was done, they noticed the replacement window motor was not a perfect match because the window was moving slower than expected. Ryan had already reordered a new fully suitable motor and told me they would replace it for free once it arrives, even though the new part is more expensive. That level of customer care really impressed me. Ryan was super friendly throughout the entire process, and the atmosphere at the shop was genuinely welcoming. They even have a coffee bar and two affectionate office cats greeting customers, which made the experience unexpectedly enjoyable. It’s rare to find an automotive shop that is both professional and truly cares about doing the job right. Highly recommended.

I cannot recommend this auto shop highly enough!! Especially if you need to have your car worked on and have your kiddos with you 🙂 We went in for catalytic replacements, spark plugs, and an oil change. Ryan, the owner, was down 4 out of 6 techs, so was in the shop doing the work himself, too. My car, having rusted bolts (and who knows what other emotional issues… big baby… 🙄), required a lot more TLC than expected. He worked an hour and a half past closing to get my car fixed and back on the road! Today I came in 30 minutes before closing cause my check engine light had come back on after ~100 miles. He immediately pulled it into the shop, did a couple tests, let me know what was going on, ordered the parts, and will be getting me back in and taken care of tomorrow! (These parts were on the radar for needing changed, not an upscale, and are the MUCH cheaper of the possible needed parts, so I’m happy about that!!) Also, I had my 3 kids with me last time, and they had a great time with all the toys and the 2 very friendly shop cats!

This shop deserves every bit of a 5-star review. The new ownership has completely transformed the place. From the moment I walked in, I could tell they actually care about their customers. The office was spotless, modern, comfortable, and somehow even smelled amazing — which is definitely not something you usually say about an auto repair shop! Most importantly, they fixed my car quickly and the service was outstanding. They were professional, honest, and kept me updated the whole time. No pressure, no games, just great customer service and quality work. It’s honestly refreshing to find a repair shop that makes you feel confident leaving your vehicle there. If you’re looking for a trustworthy place with fast turnaround and people who genuinely care, this is the shop to go to. The new owners are doing an incredible job, and I’ll definitely be coming back.

Ryan Hawkins was absolutely amazing. He got me scheduled right away and gave me exactly what I needed. He did not try to up sale me on anything at all. He gave me an extremely good price to replace my rotors and breaks, and got it done quickly. It is very refreshing to get this kind of service for auto repairs! I certainly will be coming back for all my car maintenance and repairs.

Better than ever under new management! “We were loyal customers of Reliable for years, so we were a bit nervous to see the name change when my daughter’s Mazda CX-5 needed front-end work. Those nerves vanished the moment we met the new manager, Ryan. He explained that the previous owner retired and he’s taken the helm—and honestly, the level of service is better than ever. Ryan is a breath of fresh air; he explains repairs in plain English and his pricing is incredibly fair. He quoted us a full day for the repair, but had it finished by noon! We were so impressed to learn they also handle inspections and oil changes. I’ve already booked my wife’s car for an AC repair tomorrow. Best customer service I’ve experienced in years. Highly recommend!”

North Star Automotive is all about their customers the moment they answer the phone. The clutch went out on my car in the middle of rush hour traffic. My daughter gets inspections and oil changes done at North Star so I gave them a call about my clutch. They were super helpful and even though they didn’t offer towing services they were able to give me a number to one of their preferred vendors. They were able to get to my car the very next day and had a diagnosis as well as a very fair estimate for the parts and labor. I always do my best to support family owned businesses in Austin and the North Star Automotive family is at the top of my list. Their mechanics are ASE certified and Ryan the shop manager is amazing and treats you like family. Don’t forget to go inside and meet the shop kitty cats Mercedes and Hemi. They are the sweetest! Thank you Ryan for getting me back on the road so quickly! See you soon for my state inspection and oil change!

It’s always interesting to see what is going to happen when a shop you have used for years is bought out by another company. It can be very… let’s say… “interesting” many times. Well, let me tall ya — there are no worries with North Star Automotive taking over the location formerly held by Rational Auto. The new team here is superb! Even when the cars are overflowing in the parking lot, the techs are working hard to get services completed correctly and timely, and the new (awesomely redone) waiting area has plenty of customers, the staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to help and make sure you know you are being taken care of by a professional team. Be sure to keep an eye out for the two mascots that roam – those little kittens have a blast running around, and be sure not to get too startled by the other mascot – a Star (costume) that awaits you in the waiting area (and may legitimately startle you when you catch it out of the corner of your eye). Now – all that being said – the fresh new look is great… as long as the service and quality is there… so… Yes, it is there. From Ryan at the desk to the techs in the back, your vehicle will be well taken care of in a manner that is friendly and respectful (not something that can be found everywhere anymore). Rest assured that when you choose this place to work on your car/truck/SUV it is in good hands and you will have little need to have any worries.

Ryan went above all expectations when repairing my vehicle. His customer service is top notch. The service quality is second to none. The value of the service quality for the price paid is great because he did what he said he was going to do when he said he would do it. They got this work done fast. On top of that he proactively checked multiple other things on my vehicle to make sure they were mechanical sound before calling me to inform me of completion. I just happened to ask about the condition of the other parts because they are all related and I was surprised to find out that he knew the specific and correct answers already to my questions because he already put the work in to check. He did not have too do the extra work that he did, but he did it anyway. If you want an honest repair shop that diagnoses issues correctly the first time and fixes the problem ASAP, call these guys. I’ve never had an auto shop experience like this before—North Star truly goes above and beyond. From the moment I walked in, I could tell this place was built with families in mind. There’s a clean, welcoming waiting area, a play corner for kids, and even a changing table in the bathroom—which I’ve never seen at an auto shop! As someone who doesn’t know much about car repairs, I usually feel overwhelmed or talked down to. But the team at North Star spoke in simple, clear terms, took the time to explain everything, and even told me which services I didn’t need. That honesty and care means everything. Highly recommend!

North Star Automotive, recently purchased and taken over from Rational Automotive Service, is continuing the legacy of best in class service and quality work. I would highly recommend them for automotive services like general inspections, oil changes, brake and suspension, engine and diagnostics, heating and AC, tire replacement, and fleet services. It is rare to find an automotive services shop that is personable, highly professional and with low prices. You are definitely getting your moneys worth here. They also have a great coffee bar with a variety of flavors if you choose to hang out and wait while the service is being performed.

I have been doing business with Ryan and North Stat Automotive now for just a couple of months. I can tell you hands down that I have not been disappointed at all. There are times I know Ryan is knee deep into something else, and he will take the time to help me and explain anything I need explained. The shop is always clean and ready for whatever issue I have.
